‘Big Love’ Season 3 DVD Release Date Announced
Posted by: | Comments
HBO really knows how to hike up anticipation for its shows. Shortly after announcing that the highly anticipated (and very slow-cooking) fourth season of polygamy drama Big Love is set to kick off early next year, the cabler recently gave out the release date for the similarly highly anticipated release of the Big Love season 3 DVD.
According to HBO, the 10-episode Big Love – The Complete 3rd Season is due to hit stores December 22, giving fans of the show barely enough time to get themselves up to speed before the fourth season begins. Clever marketing. Running for approximately 600 minutes, the DVD set will of course cover the season that wrapped up March of this year. There is still no word on the available features on the set.
It was reported previously that Amazon.com had started taking pre-orders for the DVD as early as four months ago, even without the go signal of HBO and distributor Warner Home Video as well as a working title. At least now, if you want to brush up on your Big Love universe before confronting a potentially nerve-racking but exciting season, then get the DVD and get yourself up to speed.

Big Love Sets January Premiere Date

Although no exact premiere date has been set yet, HBO has at least announced that Big Love will return to the air some time in January.
The network has revealed little about the new season, but executives did voice their displease, at this week’s Television Critics Association press tour, that the cast didn’t pick up a single Emmy nomination.
“It’s such a spectacular cast that I thought at least one of them would be recognized. Yes, we were surprised that at least one of them wasn’t recognized,” said HBO co-president Richard Plepler.
‘Big Love’ Creators Talk Season 4, Emmy Nod
Posted by: | CommentsAfter snagging their first Emmy nomination after three seasons, Big Love
creators and executive producers Mark Olsen and Will Scheffer tell the Los Angeles Times that while they’re “beyond thrilled” for the recognition, they are also “disappointed” that none of their actors, writers, directors, or creative team were nominated.

“We’re beyond thrilled to be recognized, finally, and honored to be a part of a really amazing group of nominees,” said Olsen and Scheffer. “Honestly, we feel just to be nominated is already to have won. And to be nominated, for a first time, for our third season, suggests to us it really is about the work – not the buzz or the hype, but the bone-crushing, sleep-depriving, punishing, yet exhilarating work that all of us invest in the show.”
Big Love, the HBO polygamy drama starring Bill Paxton, Chloë Sevigny, Jeanne Tripplehorn, and Ginnifer Goodwin, is nominated alongside Breaking Bad, Damages, Dexter, Lost, House, and last year’s winner Mad Men.
“We’re hopeful this nomination opens the door for a fuller, longer look by the Academy next year. A show really can’t be recognized as being superior without recognizing the superiority of its constituent parts.”
As for how the HBO drama is shaping up en route to its January return, the creators say Bill (Paxton) is set to seek political office in Utah, something that is “fundamentally more dramatic” and “potentially game changing” than anything he’s done before. “Let’s just say the stakes are life and death and that he sees no other way but to batten down the hatches and dive into the fray.”
The showrunners add that they will still continue with the Indian casino storyline, despite Bill’s run for office, with the casting of Adam Beach. He’ll play gaming bigwig Jerry Flute’s son.
Big Love Season 4: A Focus on the Church of Bill
Posted by: | CommentsWhen the third season of Big Love concluded, Bill Henrickson – due to frustration with his religion’s rules against polygamy – formed the “Church of Bill.” Look for this creation to play a major role on season four, which begins shooting in August. In an interview with TV Guide Magazine, Bill Paxton said he hopes the new church helps his character spread his word to a growing flock.

“I had lunch with the writers to talk about what we hope will be happening for the next three years,” Paxton said last week. “I’d like to see Bill’s fortunes rise, the casino investment pay off and provide us a chance to swagger in our lifestyle like in the movie Giant.”
An influx in money cash would allow Henrickson to invest in a new compound to compete with the oppressive Grant dynasty. That clearly appeals to the show’s star. “Bill is being groomed as a young prophet. I’d like to see him buy some land like they did in the early 1800’s and start a utopian town that’s more inclusive. I think he’s going to rise.”
But be careful what you wish for, Bill.
Douglas Smith, who plays Henrickson son Ben, said of his on-screen father: “If he goes off to a compound, I want to take over the three households – and annex Margene for myself!”.
