“Big Love” is going to leave the TV screen with dignity next year. The show about a polygamist but breakaway Mormon church members family is ending its run after five seasons not because it loses viewers but because it has come full circle in the storytelling.
Creators Mark V. Olsen and Will Scheffer said that the show has run its course, stating “When we created ‘Big Love’ in 2002, we had a strong conception of the journey the Henrickson family would make over the course of the series, of the story we had to tell. While we were in the writers’ room this year shaping our fifth season, we discovered that we were approaching the culmination of that story.”
HBO announced on Thursday, October 28 that the January 16 premiere would be the beginning of the final season. The cable’s president of programing Michael Lombardo said, “I’m happy (the creators) will be able to bring the story to its close the way they always envisioned.”
Scheffer refused to dish out details of the final season but told E! Online that “you’ll agree this is definitively our best season to date”. Meanwhile, star Chloe Sevigny is more generous. She said, “I think that finally you see the Henricksons having to deal with some consequences, for their actions and for their lifestyle. And they are finally getting a little bit of comeuppance.”
Amanda Seyfried, my favorite lady, whom I catch on-screen whenever I watch Big Love, seems to have moved on in life! I know she keeps on moving when it comes to professional life but here, I’m talking about her personal life. Yes guys! You read it right. With casting coups like this, Big Love is well on its way to making up for a lackluster season 4: Legendary (and twice Emmy-nominated) 24 villain Gregory Itzin has signed up for a major recurring gig on season 5 of HBO’s Big Love, sources confirm to me exclusively.
Itzin will play Senator Richard Dwyer, the Republican Majority Leader of the Utah State Senate — of which Bill (Bill Paxton) is now a member.
Production on Big Love’s fifth season is scheduled to get under way this week.
Coming off a disappointing season, Big Love will look to rebound when it returns to HBO. It should premiere in January and we can confirm its opening episode will be titled “Winter.”
We can also confirm that the series is casting for three new roles. They are:

I’m surprised to know that someone in the world rejected the proposal of Amanda Seyfried…Ooh God! How can anyone be so insensitive? There are a number of viewers who crave to watch Big Love episodes only to get some glimpses of this stunning lady and here, someone rejected her proposal.
Yes, Amanda proposed a role to none other than Leonardo DiCaprio, but he rejected insensitively. Guys, what were you thinking of?

Send out an APB, because Mireille Enos (‘Big Love’) is set to make ‘The Killing.’ AMC has just announced that it has cast the ‘Big Love’ actress as the lead in their new drama pilot.
Based on the Danish series ‘Forbrydelsen,’ ‘The Killing’ tracks three different storylines after the murder of a young Seattle girl: the detectives on the case; the grieving parents; and the murder suspects. Enos will play Sarah, the lead homicide detective on the investigation. She will join the already-cast Billy Campbell (‘Once and Again’), as city council president and mayoral hopeful Darren Richmond, and Michelle Forbes (‘True Blood’) and Brent Sexton (‘In the Valley of Elah’) as the victim’s parents.Those with HBO may already be familiar with Enos and her stellar work as twins Kathy and JoDean Marquart on ‘Big Love.’ She was also nominated for a Tony award in 2005 as a featured actress in ‘Edward Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf.’
Production on the ‘Killing’ is slated to begin May 10 in Vancouver. The pilot, which sounds like a cross between ‘The Wire’ and ‘CSI,’ was written by Veena Sud (‘Cold Case’) and will be directed by Patty Jenkins (‘Monster’).
There weren’t really any offers, but Michael Biehn, Bill Paxton’s co-star in 80s flicks Aliens, The Terminator and Tombstone, is shutting the doors on appearing on Big Love, adding that the polygamy concept of the show is “a bore” anyway. Somebody didn’t watch season 4, that’s for sure.

that he was supposed to reunite with Paxton as he was considered for the part of Bill Henrickson’s uncle and his mom Lois’ younger brother Eddie, a role which eventually went to Brian Kerwin.
“I went out there, put myself out for them, and they went in a different direction. Which didn’t sit that well with me,” says Biehn, who was part of the Emmy-winning 80s series Hill Street Blues.
“I’ve never seen the show, but I didn’t like the way I was treated by the producers. They enticed me to come out there, meet, and talk, read through stuff. Then they turned around and gave it to Brian Kerwin. I was like, ‘Ugh!’ Big Love? The producers on that show left a bad taste in my mouth.”
He insists later on that he’s not “that interested” in appearing on Big Love anyway, reasoning that “the whole concept to [him] is a bore.”
Paxton, meanwhile, was spotted last week
at the opening of the Dallas International Film Festival to support his friend Tom Huckabee, director of Carried Away, which was screened at the event.
In slightly related Big Love news, South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone are onboard to write and direct a Mormon-inspired musical comedy that is expected to hit Broadway in March next year.
“Growing up in Colorado, a lot of our friends were Mormons and we always thought their book would make a great musical,” says the two in a joint statement.
The musical is expected to gain controversy, something Big Love is all too familiar with. The LDS Church has repeatedly cited concerns over the show’s depiction of polygamy.
