Big Love TV Show is an HBO television drama about a Utah family that practices polygamy. Big Love stars Bill Paxton, Chloë Sevigny, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Ginnifer Goodwin and Harry Dean Stanton. Bill Henrickson (Bill Paxton, Twister, Thunderbirds) has everything in triple: three wives, three houses, three families. Bill’s first and only legal wife is Barb (Jeanne Tripplehorn, Word of Honor) but he also shares the bedroom with middle wife Nicki (Chloe Sevigny, Boys Don’t Cry, Dogville) and youngest wife Margene (Ginnifer Goodwin, Ed, Mona Lisa Smile). Bill also has three new adjoining houses, seven kids, and a booming hardware business. His closest friend and business partner at Home Plus, Don Embry (Joel McKinnon Miller), is also a polygamist. The series kicks in as Bill receives troublesome news about his father Frank (Bruce Dern, Last Man Standing), who lives in rural Utah in a fundamentalist community lead by Bill’s father-in-law, the menacing “Prophet” Roman Grant (Harry Dean Stanton, Wild at Heart, The Green Mile).

HBO still has lots of love for the Mormon drama “Big Love.”
Four episodes into the series’ fourth season, the cable network has renewed the Playtone-produced show for a fifth season.
“Love,” which centers on Utah native Bill Henrickson (Bill Paxton) as he balances the needs of his three wives (Jeanne Tripplehorn, Chloe Sevigny, Ginnifer Goodwin) and their broods, drew 1.7 million viewers for its season premiere last month. That was up 49% from Season 3’s opener.
Despite facing the NFC Championship and the Grammys the past two Sundays, the modestly rated series is tracking 13% higher than last season.
“Love,” whose current story line centers on Henrickson running for office, will be getting “deeper and darker” in the second half of the season, according to creators Mark V. Olsen and Will Scheffer.
With four eventful seasons, the fifth cycle will take a breather, “settling into the stortytelling,” Olsen said.
Added Scheffer, “We want to take the temperature of the marriages.”
With the exception of the departing Amanda Seyfried, the series’ core cast will come back for Season 5, with Olsen and Scheffer also mulling a possible return for new additions Zeljko Ivanek and Sissy Spacek.
“Love,” which earned its first best series Emmy nomination last year, is executive produced by Tom Hanks, Gary Goetzman, David Knoller, Bernadette Caulfield, Olsen and Scheffer.
Before this season of Big Love concludes, Bill’s fourth wife will return to the flock.
E! News confirms that
Branka Katic will soon reprise her role as Ana. She’ll come back on the drama’s Valentine’s Day episode (airing on Valentine’s Day itself) and will come equipped with a shocking revelation:
She’s engaged.
Cue suspenseful music and prepare for an intriguing final five episodes of the season.
Bill is on air talking about his potential run for State Senator. Bill answers some questions regarding hiring illegal immigrants. Back at his store, the INS shows up to check out the legality of Bill’s employees. Someone gave an anonymous tip. Bill knows that it had to be his opponent Colburn.
Everything checks out clean with illegal immigrants, but they find a discrepancy with health insurance coverage. It is because both Don and Bill have all their wives and their children covered. Bill ends up asking Don to do the unthinkable – take the bullet for the sake of his candidacy.

In front of all the local media Don admits living a double life and having more than one wife. Don also turns in his resignation.
Barb was asking Margene about why Ben was shown on her station as Margene’s husband. Margene is a terrible liar and Barb can see something is up. Margene ends up telling Barb that she accidently kissed Ben on the lips, but it meant nothing.
Meanwhile, Sarah has had the Indian woman and her son stay with her at her place. The woman leaves Sarah a note that she will be back and wants to cook them breakfast. The woman never comes back and Sarah is happy she has the little boy to take care of.
Bill’s casino partner, Tommy gets wind of this and confronts Barb at her house. Bill walks in and demands to know what is happening. Barb tells Bill the reason why she kept it from him was to not add additional stress to his busy life. They go to Sarah’s home and tell her that she must return the baby to his mother.
Alby meets with JJ who tells him that he would like to have Adaleen become his new wife. Alby happily agrees and grants JJ’s request. Adaleen is furious, but as a woman has no choice but to accept God’s plan for her.
Nicki goes to pick up her daughter at JJ’s house and sees her mother. She is beyond disgusted and does not know what to do. She leaves furious with JJ and goes home to vent.
Alby then goes off to Dale’s house. He is not home, so Alby decides to sneak in through the back window. When Dale does arrive home he is surprised to see Alby sitting on his living room couch. Alby tells him he knew that Dale was home alone and wanted to bring him some jam and cooked him dinner. Obviously Dale is mad, but gets over it because he likes him so much.
Dale goes up to take a shower, and it gives Alby the time to snoop through Dale’s briefcase. Roman shows up as the voice in Alby’s head and tells him that he was stupid for trusting the enemy. Alby confronts Dale about his plans and he tells him that he has nothing to worry about. That the government will not try to destroy Juniper Creek.
Ben confronts Margene about the kiss. She admits that the kiss meant something. He grabs the cocoa for her and she looks at him intensely with bed eyes.
The next morning, Teenie tells her parents that Ben wrote a love letter to Margene and she believes that they are in love. Bill is mad at Barb because he feels like he is out of the loop. Bill confronts Margene and Ben about the kiss and the letter. Ben lies and said that he was the one who kissed Margene and it was his stupid crush.
Lois and Frank go to the Mexican boarder to collect the birds illegally. On their drive back, Frank’s wife unlatches the lock and lets all the birds go.
Right before Bill is to announce his run for State Senate, he sees that Margene is hysterical. She admits to Bill that she kissed Ben and she meant it.
That night, Ben is in his room and is packing up when Bill enters. Ben tells his father that he thinks it would be best for him to leave for a while – and Bill agrees.

Amanda Seyfried decided to quit “Big Love” because she felt the TV show’s producers weren’t maximizing her potential. The actress shot to fame in 2006 after landing a lead role in the U.S. series as a member of a polygamous Mormon family – but she announced in December 2009 she will be leaving after the fourth season.

And Seyfried admits she made the decision so she can focus on landing more film roles that will allow her to show off her talents. She tells Britain’s OK! magazine, “I was frustrated because I wasn’t really working that much on it and it was six months of my life.”
“My career is going places and I wasn’t able to do the things I wanted to,” the 24-year-old actress explains. “And I had to live in L.A.”
Big Love’s Chloe Sevigny managed to snatch the Golden Globe Award for
Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, but not before ripped her dress en route to accepting it.
The actress who plays stoic and slightly scary Nikki Grant on the HBO series had a wardrobe malfunction after an escort stepped on the train of her Valentino sleeveless number.
“I can’t believe you just ripped my dress!” she screeched.
“I feel amazing in it. Unfortunately, the gentlemen escorting me up to the stage when I won this award stepped on it as he was walking and away tore it, so now it’s slightly more tattered. I think it’s going to make it through at least to the party,” she later told the press.
She also shared some insights about how she personally felt about polygamy and how she is able to reconcile it with how Nikki, who is so fervently for it, felt. On this season’s opener, she was the one who discovered her dead father and she’s also locking horns with an estranged ex-husband.
Big Love, however, wasn’t so lucky, as it lost to perennial winner Mad Men, which had won the Globes for Best Television Series – Drama three years running. The other nominees include Dexter, House, and True Blood.
The premiere of Big Love season 4 was met with neutral to positive reactions. That being said, things were rolled out pretty quickly on the HBO series, considering that it will only run for nine brief episodes. Such things include Nicki (Chloe Sevigny), who had so far been causing the most trouble among the wives; Bill’s (Bill Paxton) senate bid; and Amanda Seyfried leaving the show.
For starters, Big Love creators Mark V. Olson and Will Scheffer told the Futon Critic that the Washington lobbyist role that went to Sissy Spacek will be “larger than life” especially seeing that Bill’s candidacy will be a major storyline this season.
“We had written a 5-episode arc for a character,” reveals Olson. “Once we thought of that and then thought of Sissy Spacek, the character just kind of jumped off the page and took on a complete life of her own.” Adds Scheffer: “This is a chance for audiences to see Sissy Spacek in a way they’ve never seen her before.”
“It was going to be a large part of the season,” Scheffer previously tells the Los Angeles Times.
Another character which regularly jumps off the page is Nicki, and the writers admit that it’s always a “blast” to write for her. “She’s just a character with so much inner-thought play. She’s not hard to write for.”
That being said, Big Love season 4 will be “kind of rough” for Bill and Nicki, which is not so surprising. “Everyone’s trying to help Bill and Nicki work through the sense of betrayal and distrust that has been created,” he adds.
Finally, as for Seyfried, Olson assures Big Love fans that Sarah will have her “happy end.” It might be “bittersweet” and she hasn’t come to terms with polygamy, but it should still satisfy fans ultimately.
“She does learn to separate from her parents in their decision to entering into polygamy so she does have to leave. She can no longer be a part of this family unit but it’s with a kind of maturity now and wisdom that I think is a very appealing episode where we launch her out into the world.”
Watch promo of Big Love Season 4 Episode 2 The Greater Good
“I’m watching birds.”
Yes, that’s Alby (Matt Ross) for you. On tonight’s Big Love season 4 premiere, there was a new opening sequence for the HBO show. None of the thin ice stuff and the Beach Boys tune. Instead, what was previously released as a very vague falling / falling out promo turned out to be the opening sequence of this season’s Big Love.
Right off the bat, of course, we can already deduce what the glaring thing about this opening sequence is: Bill (Bill Paxton) and the wives never touched. There was a moment when I think Barb (Jeanne Tripplehorn) and Bill are about to touch hands, but at the last possible moment, they don’t. Such will be a glaring theme throughout this season, disunity among the household. Bill will reportedly need to make decision that don’t always get the support of all the wives (so what else is new?).
The first sequences were kind of awesome, and the juxtaposition of the quite murmur of singing from Bill’s church is cut with the Feds busting in the compound in search of Roman Grant, who as we all know, is quite dead. His daughter Nicolette Eugenia Grant (Chloe Sevigny) is also under deep scrutiny because the mysterious amount of cash that was dumped into her bank account. By extension, Bill’s about-to-be-opened casino also becomes under close FBI scrutiny.
With the news of his daddy’s demise, Alby couldn’t wait a second longer before relishing his freedom (kind of). He sets off for the park and armed with his trusty binoculars goes sight-seeing. He isn’t waiting for long until someone does come and his excuse – “I’m watching birds.” – didn’t exactly fly. Off to the bushes they go!
But – uh oh – how unlucky can you get? Turns out Alby’s tryst was with Dale Tomasson (Ben Koldyke), the state-appointed trustee to oversee Juniper Creek affairs during Roman’s absence. Sucks!
As for the other wives, Barb is still reeling from last season’s excommunication, but her attempt to get daughter Sarah (Amanda Seyfried) and fiancé Scott (Aaron Paul) into Bill’s church seems to be falling in deaf ears. And, weirdly, it’s Margene (Ginnifer Goodwin) who comes to the rescue and tells her to not sweat it. Just when you thought she’s all grown up, she adds, mischievously, that she’s picking up Barb’s share in the sack if you know what I mean.
As for Nicki, following last season’s Ray Henry debacle, she and Bill finally have some alone time, while, of all things, transporting Roman’s body from the casino site to the Big House. So in the end, Bill did hold hands with everyone in gratitude, but it was cut short when Roman’s hat – oh so symbolically – presented itself.
